Elegant Dining Room
An elegant dining room transformation! Take a glance at your dining room. Does it represent you? Does it inspire you? Is it a place you are excited to hold dinner parties or do you wish you had a door to close and make that room disappear? We recently had the opportunity to give a dining room a complete makeover for a staging to live client and it was truly a makeover!
This customer doesn’t have a distinct taste, just that they want it to be stunning. This project is especially fun because the decorating style reigns weren’t too tight that we had to work with so we were able to bring our ideas to life.
Inspiration Statement Piece
To begin with, we found the perfect table and side table for this client. They went with a concrete top table with a wood base for their elegant dining room. The side table was matching. We changed out the large traditional chandelier for a more modern, sophisticated fixture. The walls were already gray so with these three heavy, new pieces in the room, it was pertinent we soften the feel of the space. The first thing was to get upholstered, light colored chairs. Adding fabric textures can instantly dispel harshness in a room. Making the chairs lighter colored helped offset the weighty feel of the concrete and dark wood bases. With the larger items now purchased, it was time to fill the wall space.
This second phase of transforming the room was a bit tricky. We had one small window in the room and lots of wall space. With a heavy table and side table in the room, we had to be careful not to put a heavy feel on the walls. This step took the most time. After many ideas, we settled on vibrant, hand painted flowers from a local artist, framed in a rustic wood frame to complement the wood base of the furniture pieces. This idea was a great way to bring color and life to a sterile room.
The next step is my favorite, and that’s the accessorizing! Rather than go with a standard mirror above the side table, we wanted a conversation piece. We ended up going with a 3D, gold wired mirror that gives the wall depth and is a decorative feature. The side table was completed with a white base lamp and other colorful accessories to highlight the colors from the floral pictures. On the third wall, we found a unique wine rack that is the perfect mix of rustic and modern.
Finally, the most important part and that is setting the table. This step is the part of decorating a dining room that says, “Welcome home. Stay and eat!” Our table settings included a layered look of a wood base, crisp white plates, simply patterned napkins bound in a wooden napkin holder and little sprigs of green to add life to the table.
The finished room is beautiful because there are a variety of textures, colors, and layers that complement each other and keep the eye entertained. Not entertained like you’re watching the circus, but more of a soothing, elegance entertainment. A balance throughout the room happens by blending rustic and modern, as well as the splashes of color found on the dining table, side table, and floral paintings.
